Update On My Condition

25 May 1999

Generally speaking, I have made tremendous progress since last summer. The neck and arm fractures have both been pronounced "healed" by the two Columbia Presbyterian doctors that were treating them. I am still experiencing some pain in the peripheral nerves, especially in the legs, caused by the pounding that I took during the fall. And the mobility in the arm that was broken is somewhat less that it was. I am told that with time and regular exercise, these problems will diminish.

I have been fairly active this spring, although I am avoiding activities that are "high impact" or which could lead to further trauma. I have enjoyed several overnite hikes and some kyacking. I have also spent two weeks on Lamont's research ship Maurice Ewing, making seismological measurements on the Juan de Fuca Ridge (in the Pacific off of Washington State).
