[Journal Entry for March 16-17, 2010]. [Tuesday] Hannah, John and I drove up from Denver last night, crossing Berthoud Pass in the dark, and met Dallas in the town of Fraser. This morning is very clear and the views of the Rockies are spectacular. We spend the day skiing at the Winter Park ski area.

We take several lifts and ski several easy trails to get to the top of Parsenn Bowl. The ridge is at the top of a cirque full of glades that make for interesting skiing. The view from the bare ridge top is wonderful. To the east, I can see the long snow-covered ridge of the Continantal Divide. Tho the west is another, closer snow-covered ridge that is broken up into three or four prominent cirques. There must be another cirque on the western side of Parsenn Bowl, beyond the ski area boundary, but I can see only a cornice and a steep, rocky cliff at what must be its top.

Dallas and I spend the morning skiing the Bowl, and then meet Hannah and John at the Lunch Rock Cafe. We sit on lawn chairs in the snow, enjoying the sun and the view, and watching Grey Jays dart amoung the skiers, begging or stealing crumbs. After lunch, we ski the trails on the western flank of Mary Jane.

[Wednesday]. We have another sunny day, with unusually warm temperatures - well above freezing, which leads to rather slushy snow. We go up to the Parsenn Bowl, where the temperature is cooler and the snow is a little faster. We eat agaun at the Lunch Rock Cafe, and then ski some trails at the north end of the ski area, coming off Winter Park summit. We quit early today, for we are taking a Red Eye flight back to New York tonight, and need to park up.

About five hours of skiing on Tuesday, three on Wednesday.
