Journal Entry for February 17, 2011; Sunday River. The day is sunny and warm, in the forties, Fahrenheit. Dallas and I ski first on Barker and Locke mountains, and especially the trail called Sunday Punch, which is fairly steep and straight. The snow is a bit soft and sluggish, but maybe a little less so on Sunday Punch. After several runs, we had a late lunch at North Peak Lodge. We then skied a variety of trails on the North Peak. The sun was shining all day, and the view of the neighboring mountains were very good. Puzzle Mountain, across the valley to the north of us, has had quite a lot of wood cutting lately. Its flanks are visibly denuded. The demarkation line between the cut and uncut regions is a strikingly straight line on the east flank of the mountain. We skied until about 3:30 PM, for a total of about four hours. On the drive back to our hotel in Lewiston, we stopped briefly to admire North Pond, off of Route 26 in Bethel Maine. Moody Mountain is a prominant hill overlooking the lake to the north. It has a prominant cliff on its south side.
