[Journal entry for March 26, 2012; Hudson Dock]. I parked at th Bear Moutain Lodge and walked down to Hudson Dock. It was early evening, a litle before sunset. The buildings were lit up well by the sun - the Carousel, the adminstration building, the lodge, all with the brown basalt fascade that is typical of Palisades Interstate Park Commission buildings. Many of the trees are now in bloom. I passed several full of white blossoms. The pedestrian walkway descends to river level along a little stream, passing a picnic area with cast iron barbeque grills in animal motifs. It crosses the train tracks via a tunnel and leads to a broad grassy field and to the dock, itself. Several people werre fishing. Canada geese were wondering about. The river was rather choppy due to a strong wind. The view of the Bear Mountain Bridge and the hill on the east shore of the Hudson River called Anthony's Nose was rather nice. I walked south along a path until I reached a train trestle crossing over to Iona Marsh. The marsh is a bird sanctuary, but I saw nothing exotic during the few minutes that I stood there. A tug boat towing a barge passed by. I walked back following a trail along the cliff edge that led northward. It offered a good view of the bridge and of a large bronze statue of an elk. About and hour and a half.
