Product: IESX
Version: GeoFrame 3.7.1
Application: Environment
Search Type: Error
Topic:
Alternate display not available.
Description:
Upon launching IESX from the Seismic Catalog in GeoFrame; a message window
appears saying:
Alternate display not available.
OK
You must click OK to continue.
Solution:
You are in a state of not having enough colors for IESX to launch modules on
both monitors. You will be able to launch Interpretation and Basemap on the
default screen but the option of control/MB1 gives an Application task
parameters window without a GUI button for Display:Screen 0 or Screen 1.
This option would be available if you had enough colors.
To see how many colors are actually being used, launch XColor from unix command
line: xcolor -noinst & Or type color_check in a GeoFrame Xterm.
You have several options:
1) Always launch GeoFrame first before other color intensive applications, such
as Netscape.
2) Reduce the colors used by your Desktop Environment.
A. Click the DTE icon with the color pallette, calculator fonts, and
window corner. (Style Manager)
B. In the Style Manager, click the Color icon.
C. Set Number of Colors to the "Black and White" setting.
D. Since this change will take effect only after the next login: log
out and log back into the workstation.
E. Upon login you will notice that the DTE bar has now changed colors to
black, white, and greys.
3) If those fail, add 2 lines to your .cshrc file:
setenv IESX_PRIVATE_CMAP true
setenv IESX_SHARED_COLORS 32
After sourcing the .cshrc, launch a new Geonet and GeoFrame. Or logout of the
workstation and log back in. You should no longer get the message window and the
Display button will be available.
