Topic:
"Unable to initialize data area" error trying to merge interpretation.
Description:
Complete error message: Unable to initialize data area, possible causes are too restrictive permission, or problem within source project. But you can share the seismic from the source project without errors. After you have checked all the obvious things like permissions on source and destination project directories and the IESX_CONFIG files, allocation and disk space and its still giving you the error then it is a possiblity something is wrong with the interpretation database of the source project. Here are some items that have caused problems that we have found so far: -Problem associated with grids that did not have valid binset. These were grids upgraded from IESX 10X to GeoFrame. -Empty fault boundaries. Nothing displays on Basemap after selecting all fault boundaries and they are not on disk anywhere for the source project. Get error in IESX DataManager 'Not in GF query' trying to delete fault boundaries. Do not now if these were upgraded from 10X.
Solution:
Run QCTool to find and delete the 'bad' grids. Delete fault boundaries in General Data Manager by querying for all boundaries. QC tool did not find the bad fault boundaries. Also, check for bad contours and scatter sets. Make sure you can display them on Basemap. Last resort, backup and restore project with proman. This will automatically drop the 'bad' items.
