What does "MODE" mean in Posting Controls?

Solution:
Mode determines what method of (re)display is used when the post data 
  command is executed.  

Overlay - Adds the selected data to the currently displayed map as an overlay
      if it is not currently displayed. 
      Never clears screen before redisplaying.

Refresh - Clears the screen before posting new data in the map area.  If the
      data selected for posting has been changed or is not currently displayed.

Redisplay - Always clears the screen and redisplays the selected data.
