Topic:
Can tobin format well data be loaded into IES Data Management?

Description:
Client has a tobin format ASCII file containing well data and wants to load the wells into the project.

Solution:
The tobin formatted file could be potentially be loaded two different ways. One way would be to load the data in as a cartographic layer: 1.) Session Manager > DataManager > Map > Cartography 2.) in the 'Load cartographic data' menu, select the 'Tobin' format, enter the ASCII file containing the well data, and click on the 'Load' button. This would load the well information into the database as a cartographic map layer, but would not allow the user to edit those wells and/or load additional information with those wells such as well paths, markers, log curves, etc. A second way to load the file would be through IES Data Management as a generic ASCII file. The user would have to specify card columns for well name, location, etc: 1.) Session Manager > Application > IES DataManagement* 2.) ADD data to project 3.) Add WELL data 4.) Add WELLS, PATHS and/or FORMATION TOPS through CARD IMAGE input 5.) DEFINE operation CONTROL parameters 6.) DEFINE card image format 7.) INPUT data from DISK (or TAPE) * IES Data Management is not a Motif-based application. Therefore you will use arrow keys and the Return key on your keyboard rather than the mouse. . To move across a screen and toggle through options, use the left and right arrow keys . To activate your selection(s) and return to the preceding screen, move the cursor to EXIT and press Return on your keyboard. . To return to the preceding screen without activating your selection(s), move the cursor to QUIT and press Return on your keyboard.
