What does Option #11: Compress CAT files do?
Description:
Solution:
Compresses user or project catalog files that have been flagged for deletion
in IESX.
Cartographic information (culture, station locations, transformation tables)
and project save sessions are stored in CAT (Catalogue Access Tool) files.
This option removes unused CAT records in the CAT container files by copying
each undeleted record into a new CAT container file. Saved sessions are stored
in the USER Data Area CAT container file. When a project is deleted, the
corresponding saved sessions are also deleted from the CAT container file, and
marked as deleted. If a saved session CAT record cannot be re-used, the
previous CAT record is also marked as deleted. Over time, CAT container files
under the user data area can become large, and compressing CAT files can be used
to recover disk space. CAT file compression of the EXPLORATION Data Area
(project data files) is rarely required unless very large amounts of
cartographic information have been deleted.
During CAT file compression the temporary files are written on the same DSL as
the original file. Before the compression takes place the program looks to see
if there is enough space for the operation.
1.) Make sure to have a current backup of the project before proceeding with
this option.
2.) Check disk space! - If the disks are at 100% capacity, possible corruption
could occur.
3.) Check permissions! - If permissions are not open for the user to perform
this function, possible corruption could occur.
PROCEDURE:
1.) Option #1 - Initialize access to data area
- Enter the project name and password
- Enter #1 to access exploration data area type
2.) Option #11 - Compress CAT files
3.) Option #2 - Terminate access to the data area
4.) Option #99 - Exit IESX_Utilities
