What is a bat or cat file?
Description:
Solution:
BAT (Brick allocation table) volumes refers to the files where the seismic
data is stored. They will have extensions to the file name of vvol (original
loaded seismic), hvol (time slices), or svol (surface slice). It is helpful to
imagine these as a brick wall being built, with each brick containing a certain
amount of data.
CAT (Catalog allocation table) are files that contain saved sessions in the user
data area and cartographic data, station locations, and translation tables in the exploration data area. They will usually have a cat extension on the file name.
Translation tables exist both for cdps and sps and are used to display real
world information into the machine world so it can be displayed. i= line number(3D), or cdp(2D) or sp(2D); j = cdp or sp for 3D data or 0 for 3D and 0 for 2D.
