Topic:
When extacting a wavelet from a 2D or 3D line, what are the diffrences between statistical & deterministic methods?
Description:
Solution:
The statistical method produces a zero-phase wavelet with an average frequency derived from the seismic window specified. The statistical extraction method transforms the autocorrelation of all selected seismic traces into the frequency domiain, averages the spectra, and then inversely transforms the averaged spectra to the zero phase, minimum phase or constant phase estimate of the wavelet. The deterministic method produces a wavelet from the seismic and reflection coefficient data that extracts the frequency and phase information information from the seismic. The optimal seismic trace and time position (lag) are automatically selected, but you may select a different trace and time position. The process results in the highest energy computed by the cross-correlation between the seismic trace and the reflection coefficient curve. Additional diagnostic displays are provided to further evaluate the suitability of the wavelet.
