Topic:
Why do my exported faults have negative trace numbers?
Description:
Had interpreted faults on inlines, crosslines, and traverses. All trace numbers
are negative in the ASCII file generated by Interpretation > Export.
Solution:
Trace numbers can be negative since they are based off the i coordinate of the
survey. Depending on the trace's location relative to the origin, a trace will
have negative values if its LCS i coordinate is "left" of the origin (0,0).
This should not be confused with the trace numbers seen in SeisDV or Basemap
where they are converted to ordinal numbers before being displayed so that the
first trace is always 1 and the second trace is 2, etc. In exporting and
importing interp such as faults and horizons, the application is dealing with
the actual seismic trace number not the orginal value of the trace.
