Topic:
How can I view a 32 bit floating point header word in SEGY dump?
Description:
The shotpoint is in header words 181-185 in IBM 32 bit floating point format. However, the default SEGY dump only seems to dump 32 bit integer header words, because the word in start byte 181 looks like garbage.
Solution:
Under IESX > Data Manager> Load Seismic > SEGY Dump..., there is an option to specify the format of any header words under 'Trace Header Locations...'. From the SEGY Dump menu, click on 'Trace Header Locations...', then under the 'Shot point number' parameter, set Start Byte to 181, and Format to IBM (flt. pt.). Then blank out any parameters you do not wish to be dumped. Select 'Dump' and the correct value will appear during the dump just above the trace header, under the title: Trace header parameters specified by location and format: Example: Trace header parameters specified by location and format: Shot point: 218.000 1-4 Trace number line : 2 9-12 Field record number: 0 13-16 Field trace number: 0 21-24 CDP ensemble: 202 25-28 CDP trace number : 1 29-30 Trace ID code: 1 115-116 Number of samples: 2001 117-118 Sample interval(us): 4000 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- +0.00 : +1.4523558E+02 +2.0332982E+02 +1.4523558E+02 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trace header parameters specified by location and format: Shot point: 219.000 1-4 Trace number line : 2 9-12 Field record number: 0 13-16 Field trace number: 0 21-24 CDP ensemble: 202 25-28 CDP trace number : 1 29-30 Trace ID code: 1 115-116 Number of samples: 2001 117-118 Sample interval(us): 4000 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- +0.00 : +1.4523558E+02 +2.0332982E+02 +1.4523558E+02 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
