What is a coordinate scaler and how can it impact 2D seismic data?
Description:
Solution:
According to SEG Digital Tape Standards, the scaler is located in bytes 71 - 72.
It is a number to be applied to all coordinates specified in bytes 73 - 88
to give the real value of the X & Y locations. If positive, the scaler is used
as a multiplier, if negative it is a divisor. The coordinate units (bytes 89 -
90) need to be checked to determine if they are in length (1) or seconds of arc
(2).
Scalers place the navigation data on the map within the projection of the
project. Ignoring scalers can result in navigation data being displayed
improperly on the basemap. Incorrect scalers need to be corrected in the
loading of data - see SSKB entry 4683: How to load navigation from header when
coordinate scaler is incorrect.
