Solution:
1.  All checkshots must have a TVD and Time channel.

2.  When a checkshot belongs to a borehole and has a MD channel, the MD channel
    is used to convert all depth values to time.  In GF4.0, the MD channel will
    only be used when the deviation survey is horizontal or updip.

3.  When a checkshot belongs to another borehole and is set as preferred, the
    TVD channel is used to convert all depth values to time.  This rule was
    sometimes violated in 3.7 but is strictly enforced in 3.8.
