Topic:
Seismic Data Loading of IESX SEG-Y files larger than 2 Gb.
Description:
SGI Systems with IRIX 6.5 can do, but GeoFrame3.8 on SUN cannot load seismic SEG-Y files that are larger than 2 Gb. This is a strictly Solaris 2.5 problem, 32 bit data size was a limitation for the SUN OS 2.5. Starting with Solaris 2.6 , SUN started supporting 64 bit data.
Solution:
Unfortunately, GeoFrame3.7 and GeoFrame 3.8 were both compiled on Solaris 2.5. So it does not matter whether clients' OS is Solaris 2.6 or 2.8 due to the fact that GeoFrame3.7 and 3.8 was compiled on Solaris 2.5. Therefore , there is no way of either dumping or loading seismic SEG-Y files larger than 2 Gb in neither GF3.7 or GF3.8 on Solaris version unless the SGI OS system is used. Workaround: The user that has a GeoFrame project, they can go on and use an SGI with IRIX operating system 6.5 for loading >2Gb SEG-Y files. Then they can go back to their office and start using their project with newly loaded seismic by using an SGI machine.
