How to get ASCII output of defined polygons.
Description:
After creating and saving a polygon path in Basemap, is there a way to get an
ASCII output of those XY points of the path?
Solution:
There is no direct way to export the defined polygons. One workaround would
be to draw a fault trace over the defined polygon and export the fault trace.
To draw the fault trace over the defined polygon:
1.) Session Manager > Application > Interpretation > Basemap
2.) Post > Interpretation; turn on the 'Horizon' and 'Fault traces' under the
'Items to post' section of the menu; select the desired surveys; select a
horizon to post and click on the 'All' button under the 'Fault trace posting
parameters' section of the menu; click the 'Apply' button and then the 'Dismiss'
button
3.) Define > Path > Polygon path
4.) click MB1 on the Basemap to define the polygon; when finished defining the
points of the polygon, click MB3/Save; enter a name for the path and click the
'OK' button
5.) Mode > Fault trace > Add/edit; turn on 'Enter'; click on the 'Select fault'
button and select the desired fault
6.) click MB1 on the Basemap at each point on the saved polygon; click
MB3/Close to close the fault trace
To export the fault trace:
1.) Session Manager > Application > DataManager > Interpretation > Export.
2.) In the 'Export interpretation data' menu, at the top left, click on the
'Select/define format' button; select the 'ftr.ifdf' (if project is in feet) or
the 'ftrm.ifdf' (if project is in meters) format definition file, and then click
the 'Ok' button.
3.) At the central right of the menu, select the horizon which was posted in the
Basemap , and at the bottom right of the menu, select the fault (step #5 above
when drawing the fault trace); click on the 'Export' button at the bottom of the
menu.
4.) A progress box will open, and when finished, a message box will open with
the name of the ASCII file containing the information. This ASCII file will be
placed in your login directory by default.
