How to edit/remove section of log in LPView
Description:
You want to remove a section of log, but don't want a gap in the data.
Solution:
If you are editing a gap in the middle of the log you should be aware of the
results of this edit. This is a good tool to edit the start or end of a log. If
you edit a gap in the middle of the log the bottom portion of the log that
hasn't been removed from the log will move up in depth.
Example: (editing a gap in the middle of a log curve)
If you are editing a log that starts at 1000 meters and ends at 5000 meters and
delete from 3500 meters to 4000 meters, depth value 4001 meters then moves up
3499 meters if the log is 1 meter sampling. So now I have a log that is 1000 to
4500 meters left. The bottom 1000 meters of the log has moved up 500 meters.
1.) In LPView, first choose your well that contains the curve you want to
operate on, Change Default Well (#5).
2.) Then go to Log Preparation (#2) and edit log (#1), select keyboard edit
(#2).
3.) Select delete data (#2 in the edit option window), then parameters (#1).
Enter the section that you want to remove and exit.
4.) Then change curves (#2) and select the curve you want to apply this to.
Now select compute/display (#3) to receive a visual display of the log
with and without the section removed.
5.) If you are happy with the results, choose save data (#5), save data (#1),
and then enter a comment or hit return to right the log to the database.
Note: The first time you edit a log curve in this edit routine it will append
"excised" to the end of the log name by default. This makes the log name "DT
EXCISED" if you are editing a delta t curve. If I ran this same operation on
the same log I would then receive a menu to "Create New Name" or "Keep this
name" which overwrites the exisiting log. The "Create New Name" allows you to
type in a name.
