Topic:
How to output a log from a well that is beyond the 999th well.
Description:
The project contains more that 999 wells. The user wants to output a log curve from the 1000 well in the project, but IES Data Management only lists 999 wells. How can the user get the log output to an ASCII file?
Solution:
1.) Create a project with the same projection as the original project: a. Session Manager > Project > Create; enter a project name, a password, select the data storage locations and click on the 'Create' button b. select the same projection, spheroid, parameters and elevations as the original project and click on the 'OK' button 2.) Back out of the newly created project. 3.) At the UNIX level, copy the following files from the home dsl (see NOTE1 below to find the home dsl) of the original project to the home dsl of the newly created project: ?.wel (where the ? denotes the associated well file; see NOTE2 below) maploc* (where the * denotes all the files starting with 'maploc) line_info* for* inv* 4.) Go back into the newly created project: a. Session Manager > Application > IES Data Management** b. ADD data to project c. Add Data in IES format d. Create a NEW PROJECT INVENTORY 1 - Rebuild inventory: YES 2 - Confirm recovery: NO 3 - Disposition of old inventory RENAME 4 - Restore LDB files REBUILD 5 - Restore MAPLOC files REBUILD e. Then EXIT and the process will run, and EXIT back to the main menu in IES Data Management 5.) OUTPUT data from project 6.) WELL LOG data in IES format (or USER_DEFINED card image format). 7.) Select a WELL 8.) Select LOGS 9.) Output data. NOTE1: To find home dsl of a project: 1.) Session Manager > Application > IES Data Management 2.) Execute management UTILITIES 3.) Execute OS COMMANDS in a subprocess 4.) at the prompt, enter '$PROJECT'; the project home dsl will print out (exit at the prompt to get back into the IES Data Managment menu, and EXIT to get out of IES Data Management) NOTE2: To determine the name of the associated *.wel file: The *.wel file will be created with the first 9 characters of the well name provided that the well name does not exceed 9 characters. When the well name exceeds the 9 characters, then a combination of the first x number of letters and the last x number of letters of the well name will be merged together depending on *.wel files which currently exist in the home dsl. For example, a well with the name 'well_sonic' will be written to the 'well_sonic.wel' file in the home dsl, whereas a well with the name of '1234567890abcdefghij' will be written to the '34567890a.wel' file in the home dsl. ** IES Data Management is not a Motif-based application. Therefore you will use arrow keys and the Return key on your keyboard rather than the mouse. . To move across a screen and toggle through options, use the left and right arrow keys . To activate your selection(s) and return to the preceding screen, move the cursor to EXIT and press Return on your keyboard. . To return to the preceding screen without activating your selection(s), move the cursor to QUIT and press Return on your keyboard.
