Topic:
How to create a depth map using an external velocity file.
Description:
You have an xyz (z is the value of velocity) file and want to read it
into MapView to create a depth map.
Solution:
XYZ file must be in MapView format.
Refer to on-line documentation: Geonet > IESX > HELP
Version 10.2 > Help on IESX Applications > Surface Modeling > ASCII Formats
(located at end of the MapView section).
Grid the velocity file
1.) Select > Read XYZ points > External file.
- Type in path/file and exit.
- Select Yes to confirm. A histogram should display.
If correct, select Exit or up-arrow.
2.) Save/Update > Update.
- Type in surface name.
- Toggle z units to vel (ft/s) or vel (m/s).
- Toggle save points to yes.
3.) Grid velocity xyz by selecting Edit > Grid Contour > set gridding
parameters and exit.
Grid the time horizon:
1.) Select > Horizon, select time attribute.
2.) Grid time horizon by selecting Edit > Grid Contour > set gridding
parameters and exit.
Multiply time and velocity grids
1.) Grid Operations > Combine.
2.) Fill out the next menu as follows:
- Grid operation toggle to multiply.
- Scale #1 units leave to none. (defaults to grids units).
- Scale for Grid #2 (velocity) leave to 1.
- Scale #2 units leave to none. (defaults to grids units)
- Scale for Grid #1 (time) type in .5 (compute one-way time)
- Input Grid toggle to List.
- Resultant Surface Name, type in name.
- Final Grid Output
- Grid #1 Fault Handling and Grid #2 Fault Handling need to be set
if you have fault traces.
- Grid Extent Handling - specify which grid extent to use and exit.
- Select the velocity grid, select yes to make current data.
- Select the time grid, select yes to make current data.
- Select the contour icon to display.
