Topic:
How to transfer wells from project to project.
Description:
Wells cannot be shared from project to project like seismic data can. Each project must contain its own set of wells.
Solution:
The preferred method for transferring wells from project to project is to use Geoshare (check the Geoshare section of the web pages for 'How to transfer wells from IESX to IESX'). Another option for copying wells from project to project (listed below) is via a UNIX copy of some files and the IES Data Management application. However, this option will only copy over the surface location of the well(s), the well logs and the IES tops. The deviation surveys and checkshot surveys will need to be reloaded. 1.) Make certain you are out of the IESX project where you want the wells copied. 2.) On a UNIX level, copy the following files from the home DSL (see NOTE below to determine home DSL of a project) of the project containing the wells to the home dsl of the project where you want the wells: *.wel line_info* maploc* formation.tops 3.) Session Manager > Application > IES Data Management* a. ADD Data to project b. Add Data in IES format c. Create a NEW PROJECT INVENTORY 1 - Rebuild inventory: YES 2 - Confirm recovery: NO 3 - Disposition of old inventory RENAME 4 - Restore LDB files REBUILD 5 - Restore MAPLOC files REBUILD 4. Then, EXIT, EXIT, EXIT. The process will run, and then continue to EXIT until you are out of IES Data Management. NOTE: To determine the home DSL of a project: 1.) Session Manager > Application > IES Data Management* 2.) Execute management UTILITIES 3.) Execute OS COMMANDS in a subprocess 4.) At the prompt, enter 'cd $PROJECT'; the project home dsl will print out. (Exit at the prompt to get back into the IES Data Managment menu, and EXIT to get out of IES Data Management) * IES Data Management is not a Motif-based application. Therefore you will use arrow keys and the Return key on your keyboard rather than the mouse. . To move across a screen and toggle through options, use the left and right arrow keys . To activate your selection(s) and return to the preceding screen, move the cursor to EXIT and press Return on your keyboard. . To return to the preceding screen without activating your selection(s), move the cursor to QUIT and press Return on your keyboard.
