Topic:
How to load culture data in multiple applications.
Description:
What is the best way to load culture data so that you can see it in IESX Basemap, Charisma and Stratlog at the same time?
Solution:
Culture data cannot be shared among IESX Basemap, Charisma, and StratLog at the current time. Each application has its own culture data loader. It is necessary for the user to load the culture data into each individual application separately. In IESX: 1.) Session Manager > Application > DataManager > Map > Cartography... 2.) Select format of the cartographic file (Tobin, SDT or User defined); enter pathname of the cartographic file (also enter pathname of the format file if loading 'User defined' formt); click 'Load' In Charisma (InDepth): 1.) Seismic Catalog > Charisma/InDepth > Input and Output > Other Data > Cultural Data Load 2.) Click on 'Dump' and enter path to cultural data file (Cult File Name). If the file does not conform to any of the predefined standards, the dump will be useful when defining the the input file layout. Enter other parameters and click on 'Execute' to dump the file. 3.) Click on 'Read' to open the Read window. Select a predefined format if the file conforms to one of the standards. If not, click on none and define file format (>Layout). Set up other read parameters including units of measurement and scaling factors as required. 4.) If the input file uses different projection information than the current project, modify as required using the Projection... menu. 5.) Set up the cultural data hierarchy in the Cultural Info window and create a new data element. This window offers selection of the input data type. The type of input data can be split into three distinct groups: i) Regional Data (e.g. Region, Area, Quadrant, Block, Concession, Reservoir) ii) Coastline Data iii) Company Logos 6). Click on Execute to start the read and the load the file. In StratLog: StratLog only accepts cultural data read from a DBX (keyword) file. For details on .DBX files, reference the website entry for 'Adding reference features to the Stratlog maps'.
