How to setup a digitizer in IES on a SUN machine?
Description:
How to configure a digitizer in IESCON and some general steps on how to start digitizing.
Solution:

What can we digitize in IES?
1. Well logs.
2. Station locations.
3. Interpretation.
4. Contours.
5. Well paths.

To configure a digitizer:
Number one, you will need to have your digitizer added to your virtual
workstation as a Graphic input as shown below.
Configuring your Calcomp digitizer in IESCON *******
The SYSTEM CONFIGURATION in IESCON:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The first thing you have to do is configure it as a "large GTCO", below
is the setting for a "large GTCO" in IESCON. We don't have a setting
for a "Calcomp digitizer". The 'maximum x & y' means the board is 24x18
inches, thats how that is calculated.

5 - Maximum Y value........................................< 18000>
6 - Y axis reversed?.......................................< yes >
7 - Resolution (in counts per inch)........................< 1000>

The VWS CONFIGURATION in IESCON :
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Notice the 'GRAPHIN1' is 'VWS rec' 1 not 0, what you have to do is add
the device record 2 times and delete 'GRAI - VWS rec' 0, leaving only
'VWS rec' 1 as the only 'GRAI type'.

Select the VWS device record you wish to edit.

To digitize in IES DMS. First you will have to go into ies and display
a graphic screen, Seismic, LogView, anything. Then exit and go into DMS
to start digitizing. You will not be able to digitize unless you do
this step. Once you are in DMS and you have chosen your digitizer
(large) you will receive a "digitizing" command window in the upper
left of your screen. When you get this window in your upper left,
position your cursor arrow in the window and the "frog" will now become
active. The frog will then be used to move through the menu's when it
is necessary to do so. From that point the menus will take you through
digitizing whatever you are digitizing.

This is how the 16 button mouse works:
>
>Pressing zero (0) will abort the sequence.
>
>Pressing one (1) with a valid horizon active will add a point.
>
>Pressing two (2) with a valid horizon active will erase the last point
>
>Pressing three (3) with a valid horizon active will introduce a
>discontinuity. This will end the segment and write the data to the data
>base and allow you to continue with another horizon without exitting
>the digitizing portion of DMS.
>
>Pressing (A) will also end a segment. This will exit out of the
>digitizing portion of DMS. This is the final exit button.
>
>Pressing four (4) with a valid horizon active will start or end a
>segment with a fault contact.
>
>
>Begin/end segment with a fault contact - When this option is
>chosen, the graphic position will be input as a fault contact point. If
>you are just starting a segment, this will be the first point in the
>segment definition. If a segment is in progress, this will be the last
>point in the segment, and the segment will be terminated by entering as
>a discontinuity. The data will be ouput to the database or disk file.
>
>
>So basically you use the 1,2,3,4 and A keys to enter a horizon or
>fault. The rest of the keys are for show only.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When setting your three points for digitizing you should input them in
the following order;
1st point should be upper right.
2nd point should be lower right.
3rd point should be lower left.

Digitizing logs, in the Well Log System (WLS) you can digitize well
logs as you can in DMS. In WLS you will be able to actually see the log
as you are digitizing it on the screen, something that you can't do in
DMS. Modern technology at it's finest.
Digitizing wellpaths. You will need to digitize them as faults and
output them to card image and reinput them as wellpaths defining them
properly in "Add wells, paths, and/or formation tops through card image
input".
