Topic:
How to normalize a survey with respect to another based on data in overlap zone.
Description:
We have two 3D surveys that overlap somewhat but the range of amplitudes in each is different. We would like to normalize one of the surveys based on the data from the other survey within the overlap zone.
Solution:
Create a path (one in each survey) defined within the overlap zone. Preferably the paths should overlay each other. Compute the RMS values within the paths in both surveys using the Computation Manager => RMS Amplitude application. Use the same time window for the RMS Amplitude on both surveys. [Use a different horizon name in each survey] Grid each RMS amplitude attribute and use Grid Operations => Multiple... to compute the ratio. The range of the ratio values should be small if the data are well behaved within the overlap zone. Now, you have a scale factor to use to normalize the data in either survey. Use the mean/median RMS value within the overlap zone as the scale factor. Amplitude Normalization is under Computation Manager => SeisAn.
