Photos of my sojourn in southeast Asia
Mark and chopper
At Vandergrift Combat Base after being extracted from "hot" LZ in the A Shau Valley, 18 March 1969. After over two months in the bush the need for sleep, shower, shave and haircut is evident even to the unindoctrinated in Marine culture. Marines in background are fixing unexpected ventilation provided for my chopper ride by your local friendly NVA.
Mark on patrol
On patrol between Khe Sanh and Ca Lu circa late 1968 ó note white towel for attracting NVA snipers.

Mark in temporary housing
Temporary housing facility in A Shau Valley at LZ Razor -- constructed of the finest building material available. On Operation Apache Snow with 9th Marines in May 1969 located just a few clicks north of where the 101st Airborne was taking a leisurely strolling up Dong Ap Bia (known locally as Hamburger Hill).
Mark at Dewey Canyon
Picture from Operation Dewey Canyon sometime between January to March of 1969. At temporary LZ Cunningham in the A Shau Valley -- with 9th Marines and some 3rd Marines. The 3/9 Battalion Aid Station is in background. This position overrun by NVA 17 Feb 1969. Dewey Canyon was an "unpublicized incursion" into Laos which resulted in over 1,000 Marine casualties of the roughly 4,000 Marines involved -- including four MOH winners. All KIAs occurring in Laos were "officially" list as occurring in South Vietnam.
