Current issues

Procedure

1. Everybody should be on the lookout for interesting hydrology related articles this semester. If you see something interesting, please put a pdf file or a weblink to the article into the current events folder on courseworks at least a couple of days before your presentation. Use title, source and date in your file name.
   
2. If you are up presenting, pick an article from that folder and put it into the readings folder for that week at least 3 days before your presentation. Add in the comments section if the article is for Tu or Th.
   
3. Everybody should have a look at the article before class (just check what reading is due for that week by looking at the appropriate folder in courseworks)
   
4. We'll spend the first 10 minutes of class on current issues. You have 5 minutes to present the article. Talk about at least one other source of information related to the topic. Come up with 2 questions for the class to discuss.  
5. Some tips for the presentation:

• Begin with an introduction. The class has (presumably) done their reading, but you should provide some background to elaborate on what is included in the original article. Perhaps provide a helpful image, like a map of the region of interest.
• The class may have provocative questions if the article is about a particularly contentious topic, but be ready with two or three questions to stimulate and guide the discussion. If your topic is a controversy, ask the class to explore and debate all points of view. If your topic is a scientific discovery or important event, discuss its implications for the future of hydrological inquiry.
• Provide the class with a take-home message. Why did you want the class to read this article? In one or two sentences, summarize the importance of the event or issue.
