[Bill Menke's Journal Entry for October 8, 2010; Piermont marsa] Dallas and I walked in Tallman Mountain State Park, arriving at the southern hiker's parking lot early in the morning. They day is cool and exceptionally clear, with a bright blue sky with almost no clouds. We take the bicycle path eastward till it turned to the north. Dallas joggs on the bicycle path, but I take a side trail that runs along the cliff edge. The cliffs of the Hudson Palisades are pretty subdued in Tallman Park, with trees growing on the slope, which is not so steep. A few sections are near-vertical, though, and these afford nice views of the Hudson River. The Piermont marsh is below me. It's mostly vegetated with tall, tastled Phragmites grass, which has fall colors of beige to grey. The surface of the marsh has quite a bit of texture, both due to drainage channels and ponds and also to changes in the type of vegetation. About 1 hour.
