[Journal Entry for February 18, 2011; Greenbush Maine] Dallas, Ed Abbott and I drove up to Ed and Dallas' woodlot in Greenbush Maine, in order to recover two solar panel brackets from this summer's seismometer deployment. Light rain was falling onto an eighteen inch base of snow. The access road appeared to have been unused since at least the first snowfall, as no tracks were evident. Ed and I snowshoed down to the site and unscrewed the two brackets, using an electric screwdriver with a square bit. The deck screws affixing the brackets had defeated the previous removal crew, who lacked the proper bit. We brought them back to the car and then went on a short hike around the property, crossing the beaver dam and snowshoing across the beaver pond to view the large beaver lodge that is on the northwest shore of the pond. On the way back, we fornd a second beaver lodge, together with a smaller dam, downstream of the main pond, to the east of the access road. While we were so occupied, Dallas cross-country skied to the end of the access road and up and down the power line right-of-way. She met a work crew near where the right-of-way crosses Greenfield Road, who told her they were replacing some of the poles. About an hour and a half.
