[Journal Entry for July 6, 2012] I park near the water tower at George J. Mitchell Field in Harpswell Maine and walk the perimenter road around this large field, full of wildflowers. The day is sunny and the sky is full of puffy clouds. I am amazed at the variey of flowers: black-eyed susan, clover, daisy, day lily, deadly nightshade, moring glory, sea rose, Queen Anne's lace, thistle and many more whose names I do not know. I see several colorful meadow birds that I don't recognize, and butterfiles as well. I reach the old dock, very substantial in size but falling to pieces. I walk out onto the one section that is open; other parts are fenced off. The view of Middle Bay is very good. Bustins Island is right off shore, and Whaleboat Island is to my left (south). The dock is in a smal cove, with mosly rocks and seaweed but also a sandy stretch. I pass up a road through the woods, and continue on the perimenter road of the field. It passes a public garden where people are tending vegetables. About an hour.
