[Journal entry for July 22, 2012; Spink's Neck Beach] A local resident that we met at a conveience store along Route 1 in North Kingston RI directed us to this beach; it is not easy to find. We took Gate Rd, Davisville Rd and Allen Harbor Rd east fron Route 1, past an old military base that seems to have been turned into a huge parking lot for new, unsold cars. We parked near the pubic boat launch at the Allen Harbor Marina. This is a pretty spot, with stands of pine aorund the marina and with Spartina alternaflora marsh grass growing along the shore. The harbor is a small sheltered body of water connected to Narragansett Bay by a narrow channel. The marina has a boat launch and a floating dock. I walked around the area, while Dallas swam at the beach, on the Narragansett Bay side of the penninsula. The beach is about a half mile long, a strip of sand with jetties at the two ends, and with a strip of beach vegetation between the sand and the adjacent road. I walked the length of the beach, looking at shells washed up by the tide, and noting the footprings of a deer that had come the same way earlier in the day. The view into Narragansett Bay is pretty, with Bay Island in the distance. A kayaker paddled by as we were leaving. About an hour.
