[Journal entry for
Sunday, July 5, 2015; Little Birch Island, Casco Bay, Maine] In the
afternoon, Chris Estes joins us for a paddle. We launch Duck and Hraun
from the Colony Beach. With Chris in Hraun and Dallas and me in Duck, we paddle across Potts Harbor Little Birch Island. Our progress is slowed by our having to paddle
against the flood. We sight several
different kinds of ducks and gulls. We
land on the beach at the north end of the island and spend a few minutes enjoying
the sun on the beach. I poke around and
discover a small freshwater pond in the interior, inhabited by Canada
Geese. We paddle more-or-less straight
back, with the tail flood now working to our advantage. 2:00.
