5:30 PM, Leave Tappan New York

9:00 PM, Williamstown Motel, 295 Main Street, Williamstown Massachusetts. Eat dinner and stay night in Room 2.

November 17, 2018

7:00 AM Breakfast at the Williamstown Motel.

9:00 AM Meet Jay Racela, Instructor at Williams College, at the Rosenberg Center, Hopkins Memorial Forest, off of Northwest Hill Road, Williamstown Massachusetts. Jay guided us to Tepid, Tri-State and Bear Springs.

10:00 AM Spring 1 (Site 93), Tepid Spring, spring at base of hillside, behind wetland, uphill of the Hoosic River Trail, Hopkins Memorial Forest, Williamstown Massachusetts

12 Noon. Drive to logging road paralleling Massachusetts-Vermont border, off of Northwest Hill Road, and hike it to the Tri-State Spring

12:30 PM Spring 2 (Site 94), Tri-State Spring, uphill of a logging road that parallels the Massachusetts-Vermont border, off of Northwest Hill Road, Memorial Forest, Williamstown Massachusetts. The spring emanates from the uphill bank of a gulley.

1PM Drive to Petersburg Pass Recreation Area, off of Route 2 between Petersburg New York and Williamstown Massacusetts and hike north on Taconic Crest Trail

1:30 PM Spring 3 (Site 95) Bear Spring, tiny pool with sluggish outflow stream, along the Taconic Crest Trail north of Petersburg Pass.

3:00 PM Spring 4 (Site 96), Outlet of Historic Cold Spring, spring flowing from base of stone wall, across and a little south from Coyote Flaco Mexican Restaurant, 505 Cold Spring Road, Williamstown Massachusetts.

4:30 PM Look for historic Healing Spring along the shore of Lake Shaftsbury State Park, Shaftsbury Vermont. Hike around lake, including on a trail on an esker, without finding it.  The spring may have been flooded when the lake level was raised by a dam.

6:30 PM, Dinner and stay the night at the Williamstown Motel.

November 18, 2018

7:00 AM Breakfast at the Williamstown Motel.

9:00 AM Meet Katie Wolfgang, Veterinarian and owner of a Bed-and-Breakfast, at her farm at 467 New Ashford Road (Route 7), Williamstown Vermont. Katie, accompanied by her dog Misha, guided us to Waubeeka and Indian Springs.

10:00 AM Spring 5 (Site 97), Waubeeka Spring, several large, cylindrical concrete well-houses in woods adjacent to a field, with one having an outflow into a stream. Near farm at 467 New Ashford Road (Route 7), Williamstown Vermont.

11:00 AM Spring 6 (Site 98), Indian Spring, in small gulley leading to a small impoundment with low concrete dam and spillway, near abandoned farmhouse, in woods 1 km east of farm at 467 New Ashford Road (Route 7), Williamstown Vermont.

12:30 PM Spring 7 (Site 99), Sands Spring, plastic outflow pipe accessed via a small trapdoor in a wooden deck.  The water flows into a large rectangular holding tank that is sunk into the ground and covered by the deck, a little uphill from the outdoor pool, at Sand Springs Pool, 158 Sands Spring Road, Williamstown Massachusetts.  A 5-inch diameter vertical wellhead pipe is immediately adjacent to the deck.

1:00 PM Drive to Savoy Massachusetts.

2:30 PM Spring 8 (Site 100), Sherman Springs, on the south side of Main Road (Route 116), 150 meters west of the intersection with Sturtevant Road, Savoy Massachusetts. Spring is at a pullout and is marked with a sign. Outflow is a black plastic pipe emanating from a low bank at the back of the pullout.  The spring has a concrete basin, but the hose is not flowing into it. A small stream also flows down the bank.
