[Journal entry for September 24, 2021, Pokomoke State Park at Shad Landing, Snow Hill, Maryland

I stopped at Pokomoke State
Park at Shad Landing (off Highway 113 in Snow Hill, Maryland) for a hike. The
signage in this park is terrible! The
roads of the car-camping area wind around, with few signs pointing
directions. I parked at the Nature
Center (which was closed for the season), met a couple of hikers who let me
photograph their park map, and navigated by sunlight and dead-reckoning. I
headed north to Shad Landing Marina. It is on a tributary of the Pokomoke River, which at least on Google Maps, bears the
same name. I found a really beautiful
informal trail that follows the southern shore of the tributary as it flows
through a wooded area. The reflections
of the trees in the waters of the river were especially beautiful. Then, I walked to a small pond with Red
Maples along its shore. They were
starting to show their Fall colors; Autumn has come to Maryland. Finally, I
walked a loop call the Trail of Change, through very swampy low woods, getting
my feet rather too muddy as I did so.
The trees were all very green and very nicely lit up by sun. I made a wrong turn heading back, winding up
on the edge of a farm with long buildings and a large pond. I reversed course, took a different trail,
and eventually arrived back at my car. 1:30.
