Depth of Burial Experiment in Kazakstan

Record Section of Regional Waveforms from Explosion on 09/28/97

This record section shows vertical-component regional waveforms from
the 25-ton explosion at 550 m depth conducted on September 28, 1997
in Balapan, Kazakstan. Signals are recorded by short-period sensors
(L4C-3D, T0=1 s) at sites in Kazskstan. TLG had broadband sensor
(CMG-3ESP, T0=30 s). The explosion is conducted at borehole #1349
Waveform data at distance ranges of 100-1000 km have been acquired
by LDEO/NNC deployment supported by the Lawrence Livemore
National Laboratory (LLNL).
Note that horizontal axis is the group velocity (epicentral distance in km
divided by time after the origin time in sec). It shows the apparent
speeds of various characteristic regional waves such as, Pn, Pg, Sn
and Lg. There may be some timing errors at some stations
(KUR & KKL), which should be corrected.
