"It was heartwarming to meet, listen to, and view the projects from the students of the Hong Kong Youth Science Academy. The quality of their work was extraordinary--both in the scientific work they took on, and in their ability to use video to communicate clearly and with good humor to a broad audience. It is clear that these students, their teachers and the program managers at the HKYSA are applying recent developments in hands-on, experiential science learning with great effect.
I think it is notable that these students from across China came to the United States to present their work, and were able to meet some students here, from the same generation, doing similar types of research projects. The students from both sides of the Pacific Ocean are working on similar themes: global warming, invasive species, urban ecology, the causes, impacts and solutions for pollution, etc. These themes are core components of the relationship between human society and nature; and they are central to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. For young adults and children from the two largest economies on planet earth -- China, the largest producer and the United States, the largest consumer -- to meet and collaborate in investigating how science can help to solve such important problems is a beautiful development.
It was really a great pleasure, in fact very fun for us, to meet you and to begin to get to know you. We hope to continue this collaboration in the future. We have much to learn from you about how young people can apply video and communications arts to science learning. And perhaps there will be things we can contribute to your programming in the future as well."

"On this trip to the United States, I felt a tremendous shock, because this is my first time out of Asia! It was my first time to introduce our experimental results to so many foreign professors and communicate with them face to face. It really benefited me a lot. In the Q&A session, I was too nervous to speak, but I learned the Q&A skills from others. I hope I can learn more from them! I also didn't do well at the poster presentation and I was too nervous to speak. I wanted to participate more of these activities to practice. This was my first trip to Columbia University in New York. It was huge and beautiful. It was really amazing. One of the things that interests me most is the Lamont Open House on October 5th at Columbia University. You can learn a lot and talk to many professors as well!"
