We have received a lot of positive feedback from the proposal writing panel that we ran in conjunction with the Mentoring Award event last Friday. Clearly we should follow up with additional activities along those same lines. Students might want to look at the "Guide for Proposal Writing" on the NSF/DUE website. Pam Stambaugh will post the pdf file of this guide on Lamont news for those interested.

I spent Monday on Capitol Hill arguing for congressional support of NSF's request for full funding of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program in FY05. It certainly helped that the National Science Board had voted this their number one priority within the MRE queue. But all the staffers we talked to expressed pessimism concerning the state of the federal budget for this cycle - not surprising given that we are fighting a war or two.

I missed commencement, about which I feel some guilt. I heard that it rained.

On Thursday I had a meeting with a large number of the Junior Staff - a meeting organized by the ExCom member Robin Robertson. I thought that was an excellent meeting - (I hope they did too) - covering a wide range of issues, ranging from salaries to housing (and back to salaries again). Again I thank Robin for setting this up - I have a lot of homework to do before the next meeting!

This Sunday afternoon, 3pm, Monell Auditorium - Steve Chillrud will be presenting the last of this spring Public Lecture series.
I am out of time here, so must stop writing.
