December 2, 2013: Day 7, On to site 2b
(images from the CPCP Facebook page)

Overnight the rig was moved slightly south from 2a to site 2b. We hypothesize that part of our probklems may stem from the hole inclination as well as the swelling clays and porous sandstones. We are thus inclining this hole only 15° (as opposed to 30°) from vertical with and azimuth of south.

Rigg being moved and set up at site 2b. We are hoping  with a lower inclination and our experience with 2a, we will be able to core deeper.
sandstone gravel conglomerate
(1) coarse sandstones.
(2) Gravelly sandstone.
(3) Conglomerate.
We reached a depth of 85 ft today in a mixture of coarse clastics and less abundant mudstones. These are clearly the Martha Butte beds. Some of the sandstones are highly porous and nearly unconsoldated meaning they will have to be cased off to prevent loss of circulation and hole collapse.
