Education Initiatives

The CHRR is dedicated to advancing education and research training in disaster risk assessment and risk management. While still in the early stages of developing educational initiatives, the Center is collaborating with Columbia's graduate program in Urban Planning to support field training in disaster planning for graduate students from multiple disciplines. To date, international disaster planning projects (studios) have been conducted in the cities of Caracas, Venezuela, and Istanbul, Turkey, dealing with problems of earthquake and landslide risk and vulnerability. A disaster planning studio was also conducted in Accra, Ghana on problems of climate-related hazard and public health. Future studios are in the planning stages.
