<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

I managed to get out to San Francisco for the annual AGU pilgrimage on Sunday, despite the snow, by leaving from Philadelphia - a somewhat circuitous route, but one that worked very well in the end.

I am writing this from San Francisco, and needless to say, it has been a hectic week – but an extremely productive one. Lots of excellent talks and posters – many by Lamonters of course. An extremely enjoyable lunch with Oleg Jardetzky at Stanford on Thursday - and of course, as always, a hugely successful alumni party that attracted many hundreds of our alumni and friends.\

But unquestionably the high point of the week was the honors ceremony and banquet at which our own Gerard Bond and Taro Takahashi were honored. Photos of these stars (complete with tuxedos) will be available on the Lamont web site early next week.

I will be back in the office over the weekend.
