<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

I have spent a large part of today (Friday) sitting in subcommittee meetings of the CU Trustees downtown. I hope to be able to report on positive outcomes of these deliberations next week………

We were visited by one of the Executive Directors of JAMSTEC on Tuesday – primarily a courtesy visit - though we did talk about building more cooperative activities in general. He also spent time with our colleagues in IRI.

Next week I go to Tokyo to hold some specific discussions with other JAMSTEC colleagues focused upon developing our relationship through the Borehole Research Group in support of the new drilling program – out on Tuesday back on Friday night.

Welcome to the Summer interns – it is great to see so many new faces on the Campus – and sorry that I could not attend the welcome party on Wednesday afternoon – just too many scheduling conflicts.
