<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
The end of summer arrives again with
the most glorious few days, providing ideal conditions under
which to avoid hearing anything at all about the political
convention down town. It has been a wonderfully productive
week - many folks are enjoying a last few days of vacation
before the new semester starts, so my email traffic has been
down, and the phone has been quieter than usual.
The most important and very happy news
is that our new ship, currently still named the Western Legend,
sailed from Norway last night (Thursday) after successful
completion of all the rigorous pre-purchase inspections. She
is being sailed by a Western Geco crew into Quonset Point
Rhode Island - due to arrive around the 17th - one of our
Captains, Mark Landow, is on board, as is Chief Engineer Steve
Pekar and Port Engineer Al Walsh. I wish I was there too.
Formal transfer of ownership will be taking place here in
New York in a couple of weeks.
In contrast - some serious and bad news
- there has been another series of laptop thefts in the Monell
Building. Please secure your laptops. Lock them up in a cabinet
or a draw - do not leave them out on your desks. And anyone
who has a master key or sub-master key, please keep this key
on your person. Items have been stolen from behind locked
doors. Please be assured that everything possible is being
done to identify the culprit(s).
Enjoy the last long weekend of summer,
– Mike
