<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
So after taking last weekend off, in the rain, I hoped for
some better weather for my trip to Bermuda on Tuesday - but
was disappointed - it rained all the time in Bermuda too!!!
I was meeting with the Ministry of the Environment there to
set the stage for Langseth's first science cruise in late
2006 (PIs: McNutt and Mutter) that will study the deep structure
beneath the Bermuda swell.
I spent Thursday in a one day retreat with folks from the
Marine Office - discussing how we are going to operate our
new ship, and face the many challenges that the new complex
data acquisition
hardware will bring. While we are not operating we have a
unique opportunity to bring our Chief Engineers and Captains
together in one place to talk about issues - something that
rarely happens becausegenerally one of the Chiefs and one
of the Captains is always at sea.
It was very useful.
The big event next week is the Bond Symposium on Wednesday
- a day of science talks directed towards celebrating the
life and accomplishments of Gerard Bond - for details please
check the Lamont web page.
I am confident that it will stop raining this weekend,
Have a good one,
- Mike
