<>LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
We were very pleased to entertain Ambrose Monell for an hour
on
Tuesday - he continues to be a great friend to the Observatory
and is
intent upon helping us win more visibility for Lamont on the
national
scene.
Marine Operations successfully navigated themselves though
the
annual Safety Management audit today - not an overwhelming
challenge
given that our ship has not been operating, but always a worry
nonetheless.
A second ExCom was necessary this month to handle promotion
cases -
and the Associate Directors Pat O'Reilly and made a small
start at
thinking about long range space needs for the Observatory
beyond
Geochemistry. Space is always such a fun thing to talk about...
It was great to see Martin Visbeck - at Lamont for Arnold
Gordon's
ANSLOPE meeting - and hear about his successes in Kiel.
This Saturday we are hosting the Westchester County section
of the
CU Alumni society, and hope to make some new friends who will
take an
interest in our growth and success.
Early Monday morning I head north to Nova Scotia to visit
our ship,
Marcus G. Langseth, in the shipyard - will be back on Wednesday.
Have a good weekend,
- Mike
