<>LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Lots of congratulations
this week - Wally's great achievement was
recognized formally by the Observatory's Executive Committee
this
morning when a formal motion was passed congratulating him
upon the
Crafoord Prize for Geosciences.
Peter Schlosser has joined the top 0.1 per cent of the membership
of the American Geophysical Union with the announcement of
his
election as an AGU Fellow. Congratulations Peter.
Congratulations to Paul Ljunggren and the Marine department
- our
ship the Marcus G. Langseth as formally delivered to us by
the
shipyard, and will set sail from Nova Scotia bound for Galveston
Texas before the end of the month.
And finally congratulations to Greg O'Mullan and his colleagues
for
all the visibility that they have generated for us with the
very well
written Op Ed piece in last Sunday's NYT on the real reason
for the
bad smell over Manhattan a few weeks ago.
But now I really need to go an listen to the great Ken Nealson
at the
Colloquium.
Have a great weekend - winter has arrived!
- Mike
