Software

TRL scientists strongly support the sharing of specialized software for the growth and benefit of the tree-ring community. It has been our experience that the best advances made in the discipline have come from the free exchange of ideas and knowledge which are often incorporated in the programs we routinely use .

Dendrochronology is a computationally intensive discipline. As more difficult questions are asked of our data the need for more specialized software becomes apparent. The programs offered here are continually updated or revised reflecting our commitment to advancing tree-ring research.

Disclaimer: Nearly, all programs provided here are the intellectual property of the Tree-Ring Lab (TRL) and Columbia University.  You are welcome to use them and give them to others.  The TRL and Columbia University are not responsible for what you do with these programs and will not make any claim for or against results from experiments you perform with them.  At the same time we are not responsible for the training or support of these programs.  We suggest using the International Tree-Ring Data Base Forum (ITRDBFOR) for all questions.

Programs identified by a * use graphics routines that require a directory containing special font files. To install the font files on Macintosh machines download the folder "Absoft" and place it, with all its' contents, in your computers Applications folder. For WindowsXP users, download the folder "Absoft80" and place it, with all its contents, in the top level of your computers C: drive. Do not let Windows put it elsewhere! These font file folders are also included within the ARSTAN distribution packages. Therefore, if you have already installed ARSTAN correctly you do not need to install theAbsoft or Absoft80 font file folders.
