The weather on the 6th got progressively worse with
the winds picking up to 40 knots. Trying to get the maximum distance from the weather system, we did not stop to do a station, but occupied ourselves with lectures and going over the analysis of data collected the day before. On 7th we had sustained winds up to 45 knots with gusts to 55. Waves breaking over the bow sent spray up to the bridge. The quarter deck and the aft of the ship was mostly covered with water. |
