Isotopic Analyses via Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer

at the LAMONT DOHERTY EARTH OBSERVATORY - AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY ICPMS LAB

Neptune
The Neptune Plus is equipped with 10 faraday cups and 5 multipliers. The multipliers are in the axial position, attached to the high and low faraday cups as well as two additional multipliers for measuring Pb isotopes. It has 7 10^-11 amplifiers with a maximum signal range of 50V and 3 10^-12 amplifiers witha maximum signal range of 5V.

The Axiom was installed in 2012 under the direction of Dr. Steve Goldstein. It is currently used primarily for Nd, Hf, Pb, and U-Th-Pa isotopic analyses. These samples have been processed through the appropriate separatory columns. We routinely get less than 20ppm precision on Nd and Hf and less than 100ppm for Pb.

axiom
The Axiom is equipped with 8 faraday cups in addition to its axial faraday cup. It also has an extended high mass faraday cup for isotopic analyses with large mass ranges, such as U-Pb or Li.

The Axiom was installed in 1999 and is currently on well deserved vacation after being used for over 10 years. It is looking for a new home.
