In 2021 we celebrated being back out sampling with a good percentage of our schools! This 19th annual 'Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor' event was the first field event for many of our schools in 18 months! Schools gathered with partner groups, many with support from the wonderful Student Conservation Association members throughout the region, while once again our upriver sites were visited by the DEC fisheries teams who brought full sized fish to those for the students to identify and enjoy. For 2021 we hosted ~3300 samplers at ~70 sites along the river, as groups enjoyed the challenge and opportunity of working outdoors. Through the years we have worked with ~59,680 students, teachers and environmental educators measuring salinity, chemistry, turbidity, biology and sediments. Over 39,450 fish from 80 different species have been netted, representing over one third of the 235 species documented in the Hudson River watershed! Worksheets from 2021 in both English & Spanish are available for different ages/skills at the links below:

October 14th was a beautiful clear day. Much of the spring and summer had been wet so salinity levels were push down much further than 2019. Some sites upriver posted salinities below the detecable limits of our sampling (<32 ppm) and the salt front (100 ppm chloride) was located at ~ RM49 south of West Point.
