Lamont Weekly Report, November 23, 2007

On Monday we were pleased to host Geraldine Downey, Columbia's new Vice Provost for Diversity initiatives - she met with our Women's Forum and with several of our Associate Directors and myself to discuss hopes and plans for increasing diversity - both by gender and ethnicity - on our campus.

Langseth sailed from Galveston on Wednesday on the first of several short 'shake-down' legs in the Gulf of Mexico. John Diebold is Chief Scientist and we wish him every success in bringing the complex and challenging data collection systems on this powerful new vessel into routine operation.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with friends and family and enjoyed the beautiful warm weather this year.

Please help us with getting a reasonable estimate of the number of folks who plan to attend the Geochemistry building ribbon cutting at 3pm on Friday 30th - take a moment to RSVP to events@ldeo.columbia.edu - thanks.

And finally - check out the opening of our latest art display in the cafeteria - Monday 26th at 4pm.

Have a great weekend,

Mike
